ERC Personal Endurance Classic

ERC Personal Endurance Classic

Course – A 0.68 mile loop (macadam only) or a 1.64M  loop comprising macadam (blacktop) and Woodland trail.  Weather conditions on day of event will let you determine which course you choose.

Since we added the woodland course, participants may choose to switch courses right up until they start the event.  Once you start, you’ll continue to use the same course for the day.  (You can’t switch back & forth between courses – there’s no way we’d be able to keep track of you.)

COVID: Social distancing is still Suggested.  This race will be chip-timed, and congregating at the finish line is discouraged.  There will be no support on course beyond pre-packaged food items and bottled beverages.  Participants are encouraged to self-support using the parking available along the course in the Clark Road parking lot.

The race will be limited to 100 total participants.

Event begins at 6:30 am and ends at 6:30 pm.  You may begin and end at any time you like during that time.  You may even leave the course and come back.  It’s all up to you.

The primary purpose of this event is to promote cardiovascular fitness in a safe, relaxed and friendly environment. Many individuals will run/walk a distance beyond that they have previously achieved or set a personal goal that is meaningful to them. It is a personal thing and not a competition with other participants.

There are no trophies or prize money to be handed out but we will commemorate your mileage and times.

This event was started 30+ years ago by some of the founding fathers of the Erie Runners Club to test the endurance of some of the local runners. It still stands today as a personal test of one’s endurance whether it be running or walking or any combination thereof because of the tireless efforts of Rick Ferko and his long time volunteers. Rick’s battle with cancer ended shortly after the 2006 Endurance Run.

Rick’s commitment to Social Work and the local community impacted many lives and charitable causes.

Erie Marathon at Presque Isle

Erie Marathon at Presque Isle

We will have a timer, course, shirt and medal.  There is construction in the beach 1 parking lot that will decrease space and due to our park permit you will need to walk from the parking lot at the top of the hill to the race on Sunday and after the race, It is a .6 mile walk.  The number of water stops will be determined by the ability to get volunteers.    We will have a course that is a certified course, timer, shirt, medal and after race food.  If you follow the page on Facebook this will give the most up to date information.  Will email during race week from runsignup to participants prior to the race.

There is a marathon only, the event is capped at 2000.   The Erie Runners Club also has a Half Marathon at Presque Isle in July.  This would be a great training run for the September marathon to share with friends who would like to run a half marathon.  Please follow the Erie Marathon on Facebook.  There is a 6 hour limit.

ERC New Year’s Day 5M Race

ERC New Year’s Day 5M Race

We have some unfortunate news to pass along. I have been notified that there is a supply chain problem with the calendars and drawstring tote bags that are the premium all runners are to receive for the New Year’s Day 5-Miler.

The company closed their doors for the holidays a week earlier than we were told when the order was placed, and they will not re-open until January 2nd. We are unlikely to receive anything until late that first week of January or into the second week.

The umbrellas that are the menu item are still on schedule.

As of right now, without knowing when exactly we will receive the merchandise, I can’t make any definite announcement on how we will distribute the items once we have them.  You will be notified once those plans are firmed up.

Thanks for your patience and understanding.

Presque Isle Half Marathon (runsignup.com)

A little note about time:  Many places list the start as 6:30 am.  This is due to a limitation of the old (homegrown) calendar.  With the WordPress add-in we’re now using, 6:45 is possible.  But really, would you rather be 15 minutes early or 15 minutes late?  (And nobody feels bad about that 15 minutes.  The volunteers are all going to be there at 5 or earlier.)
